i got called out to a customers house today, a firebird enviromax not firing up, took the burner out and tried to fire it up as it was an external boiler, oil was spraying out and the electrodes were sparking, but no flame... any ideas what it could be? , i did clean it out and pour boiling water through the flue and it was flowing out the condensate trap, any ideas guys??

It could be a number of things. I'd start first by checking that the fuel pressure is correct and that the fuel is kerosene. Also the spark from the electrodes. It could be that when you withdraw the burner from the boiler, the 'blow' of air from the fan isn't strong enough to affect the spark, but once connected to the boiler, the spark may not be that strong and result in loss of spark. The electrode gap may be wrong, too far away from spray, shorting or the transformer could be weakening.
Another thing is that although far fetched, water in the oil. Just take a sample and check it out.
Theres a few ideas to begin with. Best of luck and let us know how yo do CXR 100
