Hi to all, My name is George and i have just joined the forums,

My question is this, I want to fit a new bathroom suite , my bathroom is fully tiled form roof to the top of the bath all the way round the bath, the bath fits in the bathroom wall to wall with only an inch to spare, I have been told that to get the bath out i need to remove tiles as the bath will be tied to the wall, to remove the tiles would probably mean i had to retile the whole bathroom including new plasterboard, is it possible to get the bath out and a new one in without all this expense, the bath is acrylic and could probably be cut out, but how do we fit the new bath and tie it to the wall .

Regards George.:icon9::icon9:

The bath should be fixed to a baton that runs the length of the wall. Rather than giving you a detailed explanation that might confuse you, I hope you enjoy the video on this link that will show you how:

Best of luck with your installation and I hope you call back here, should you have any problems.

hi george welcome to the forums. have a look under your old bath you may be able to see some brackets which are screwed into the wooden frame of the bath. you could be incredibly lucky and the brackets are upside down so not buried behind the tiles.

With patience, & a lot of time, you might be able to cut the bath out in pieces, even if the brackets are behind plaster & tiles. Just don't pull or lever bath parts at walls.

I remember many moons ago we had to remove a bath in this situation, what we did was, disconnect all pipework and removed bath trap, we then cut all 5 legs of of the bath which gave us a bath hovering about 150mm off of the floor, My mate then jumped in the bath feet first, the two retaining clips pulled straight down, we slid the bath out and didnt damage a tile!

Or if it's been fitted by a diy'er you'll cut the legs off and it'll just drop on it's own accord

Thanks to one and all for your advice it has been very helpful, watched the video on youtube about fitting a bath.

Regards George.

If you cut the bath out around the brackets, you should be able to unscrew them from the bath timber. If you have a reciprocating saw it will take about 3 seconds.

you still have to get the new bath back in position though. i quoted for something like this recently and think i scared them a little as i havent heard back.
