gas connection new workshop

Apology's if this is in the wrong section.

I am building a new workshop about 12 meters away from my old workshop.

My old workshop has mains gas. I am wondering can i get a connection from my existing building to the new building.

Or will it have to be a completely new connection.

I am tapping into existing electricity.

My business is a small car repair shop

And i am in Scotland if that makes any difference.

Also what sort of supply do you have already and what is that feeding

What's happening to the old workshop. Will it be up for sale/rent as a separate building/workshop? Is this all on your land?

If it's all your land then you could in theory extend the supply from the original meter outlet to wherever you wish. What you can't touch is the transporters pipework & equipment. Gas main and meter belongs to your supplier. If you need them moving then you require a company registered to work on your supply to move it or install a new main. Does that help?

I own the old workshop and I will still be using it.

Yes both units are on my land.

I would like to do this with the least amount of red tape and hassle as possible lol

The gas will be used to run

One combi boiler

two ambirad suspended heaters ( witch will not be used much lol)

One spraybooth

In the old building the gas connection runs three radiators only.

I'd say next stage would be to look for some free quotes from commercial engineers/installers. An on-site assesment will assess gas metering, pipe sizing etc.

So does that mean i dont have to go to my gas supplier and ask for a new connection via transco who i believe handle new installations.

whether you need a new meter and or supply will be down to the total load of all equipment which could be used at the same time (there is a diversity factor on appliance usage which applies to domestic, but i dont know the rules for commercial) if you dont overload the existing supply a commercial engineer will simply be able to run the new supply from the outlet of the existing to the new location, but as others have said, you need a competant person to do the calculations before you make a move

googling "commercial gas engineer scotland" appears to give lots of results for job positions, is there a list somwhere that would give me numbers for a engineers that would come and do a survey

go on Gas safe website and look for "find an engineer" type in your post code you will get all firms near you
