been to price a lfe inset fire install, the customer has a chimney, surround, and hearth, but the plasterers have just boarded over the fire place opening if you get my drift....

what would you suggest - the plasterboard is obviously not fire resistant, i havent dealt with anything like this before (gas fires are a rarity for me) i have fitted a few up until a few years ago but they have just gone out of fashion around here but the opening has already been done, i have never had to make my own opening etc. Im not doing the job until next week.

any ideas as usual greatly appreciated.

The fireis the sort you cut out the opening and screw in, not the basket type.

cut out plaster board from inside of opening and reseal between marble back and brickwork with mortar/board adhesive (about 50mm seal would be good), i personally like to use pre cast flue cement if i have any.

Had a fire a little while ago where the builders opening had been closed off just using plasterboard (ie no bricks used).
Spoke with gas safe & they advised it was ar, the main problem being moisture from the chimney can degrade the plasterboard and could allow poc back into the room.

hope this helps

Yeah well that's what they've done with this, I need to cut the plaster board out and make an opening out of fire resistant material Is it lime board or mortar board? also brick up what's not required and use fit cement to create a seal? Bigger job than first seemed.
