Head scratching fault today....

It almost beat me. Story goes, i got there today, immediately I got told 2 engineers have tried but failed to sort boiler (one midweek, one ysterday),cust says the 1st engineer replaced the dead pump on a w/Bosch 24i, it must've been knackered, heating on and within an hr of him leaving the boiler stopped working (o/h stat), they got someone else out who reset the o/h stat and refilled/vented the system, same again, heating on and an hr later the stat popped. I like a challenge, but I felt like I could easily be no.3. Bp was 13mb hw and 5mb on ch, perfect I thought. There was obvious prp discharge and The exp vess was flat so I thought it may have been losing pressure and overheating when dry, i pumped it up, also the AAV was leaking, I had one so I changed it. I ran the heating and went inside (boiler was in an outhouse) to warm up and wait on result. The rads got ridiculously hot, untouchable in fact, overheat again! I just happened to look at the ch ntc, the clip was still on the pipe but only just and the ntc wasn't touching it, Bingo! I reckon the first mob must've disturbed it whilst changing the pump. Could've easily missed it and been no.3 but I was chuffed, although to be fair I got a bit lucky, But they do say you make your own luck 🙂. Anyone else had similar tricky faults recently ?

Have'nt had a real puzzler for a while, but it's a good feeling walking away having fixed something a few people can't get going. It's almost a personal challenge when a cust says we've had x number of people before and it still won't work.

Agreed, I had one a while back, same idea, x amount of companies tried to fix with no success. Very poor heat to rads, boiler modulating down very early. I was thinking pump, I took cover off and had a look, god knows why but someone had turned the pump down to '2'!!! On a combi. No wonder I thought. Sure as muck, up to '3' rads heating perfect. I sometimes think some guys genuinely havnt got a scoobie and just chance their arm by advertising that they do boiler repairs when they clearly can't

Its great coming away from a job with a satisfactory outcome that no one else picks up on or putting right the last mans wrong. One of my good ones was a boiler that wasnt working and had been that way for a few weeks, Id been sent because Im little, the boiler was at the back of a bath (tap end) in a small cupboard. Inside the cupboard was an emersion tank and behind that on the floor behind was the boiler. I could only actually shove one hand past the boiling hot tank and pipes to remove the cover etc and couldnt even se what I was doing but managed to service it, I accidentally pushed against an overheat stat that was placed on the pipe and all was good. Lucky.. The last engineers must have stood there for a while then left. Who the hell decided to put that boiler there??? Traci..

I'm 6ft so Id prob be asking why on earth did some idiot put this boiler here lol

it does make you wonder whats going thru some peoples heads when they put some boilers where they do ive sin afew nightmares recently a common one atm seems to be under the stairs that is filled with junk 🙁
