Hi everyone,

hope someone can help me identify the fitting in the picture, what I need to know is if this fitting is used on special plastic pipework or normal hep20? I am moving a radiator but do not wa image.jpg to cut the pipe until I know I can get fittings for it. It measures 12mm outside diameter, and on the pipe it says made in Germany but can't find any make. I was hoping to cut the pipe and put normal hep20 fitting on but reluctant to cut until I know exactly what pipe this is.

Thanks for your help

Thanks raw,

Are these fittings used with regular 12mm plastic or will the pipe be specialised mapress pipe, as I want to cut the pipe and use hep20 fittings to re-route the pipework?

I believe standard pipe (Speed fit, hep) is used with these fitting. Press fit is preferred for high pressure systems.

This is my understanding of press fit. I don't tend to use it.
I'm sure someone far cleverer will be along shortly..

Thanks raw,

hate new builds. Are camp fitting universal so if it is special pipe will another brand of crimp fitting fit the pipe if I can't find out the manufacturer of this one?

I personally don't know why press fits have been used in a new build. Press fits are expensive fittings.
How big is the property? What heating system is it?
Are all the radiators like this?

DO NOT put push fit on this pipework!!

I have fit loads of this pipework in new builds and its made by Uni-pipe. You need a crimping tool to connect the fittings to the pipework - if you wanted to connect it to say a compression fitting you need to make sure you have a special insert which pushes into the pipe before you tighten it into a compression joint.

Make sure you get the correct fittings/tools before you cut the fitting! Speed fit will pop straight off as its more than like on a pressurised system?

Thank you for the comments,

Yes it's on a pressurised heating system, not massive about 12 rads. Whole house is done in the stuff, does anyone know where I would get the inserts for this and how much would the crimping tool be? Do they do a converter fitting to convert it back to push fit?

Appreciate the help

Only way to convert it to push fit is special insert - compression - then push fit out the other side.
When I worked on site we used an electric crimper but I know there is a manual one you can get. I have no idea where any of it comes from though unfortunately.

unipipe | eBay

Thats the stuff in link.

Thanks fallon really appreciate it,

do you have the equipment as I may have to walk away from this one and it's not that far from you near maidstone I could send them your way to finish it off if you have the bits?

Thanks

No I don't mate. I used to use the company I sub contracted off. Them crimpers were nearly 600 quid new!! Sod that.
God know why they even use the stuff. If you can get the compression connections it would be 100 times easier. Its just sourcing the parts.

You can use compression adapters to 15 mm
