Hello

i wondered if anyone could provide me with some advice. During very bad weather my boiler often gets water in through the flue. Worcester bosch have visited before and fitted the flue with a rain guard. This helped a little but due to the boilers location water still runs through the caseing sometimes in torential rain. Previously this has never caused any operational problems but yesterday on returning from work following an almighty storm i found a pool of water under the boiler and lights flashing all over the place. i have checked the manual and have tried to reset the boiler seems to reset for a few seconds but then they start to flash again.

My question is what do i do if after a couple of days of drying out it will still not work ? should i wait longer than this before getting professional help.

This year i have already spent over £400 getting various bits on the boiler replaced and am very worried that the rainwater may have fried something major!

Many thanks

Elaine, It seems relocating you boiler would be the sensible option (away from prevelent winds/rain). Regarding waiting for it to dry out?? I wouldnt have thought that desireable. Water and electrics aren't a good combination. Hopefully you can come to an arrangement with a local Gas man wherever you are (costings etc...) to come and dry your boiler out when this occurs. To me it hardly seems fair to charge you the earth if this keeps on happening.

Agreed you need to fix the cause to cure the problem once and for all. Get you gas man to check for other possible locations for the boiler.

A bit of a long-shot but is the water definitely coming through the flue? If the condense is fitted to a rainwater pipe and the pipe is blocked rainwater could be backing up through the condense. An external break should be fitted if this is happening.

ahaaaaaaaaaaaa

yes if condense is to rain water and is blocked will fill boiler up every time it rain ! get it checked ! boiler will get damaged really badly you will end up paying for new one as this will never be covered under warranty as it's a installation fault !!!

You're right, had that a cpla years ago, good call

thankyou for all of the replies you have provided. The water is definitely rainwater through the flue as the boiler was fitted beneath a part of the roof which meets with the back of the house and the guttering is always overflowing during heavy rain. What has been suggested is very sensible the boiler needs moving however we hope to put the house on the market next year and cannot be doing with the hassle of moving the boiler now. instead we are going to try to get some deeper guttering at that side of the house.

This morning the boiler gave us hot water long enough for a quick shower and then cut out again. I will leave it untill next week and if it still will not work I will call the plumber just hope it does not cost alot to repair !:bomb:

very intersting post. like has been said already sort out the cause of the problem rather than moving the boiler.
the air break in the pipe outside would be the best option.

Glad to hear it's working again. You should be a little bit careful - if there's water trapped in the flue it may affect the combustion which in turn could lead to high levels of Carbon Monoxide. It may be worth getting someone in sooner rather than later, just to be on the safe side.

I would agree, you need to get it looked at asap
