Hi all,

Just stumbled across this little site, read some threads and found it quite informative so decided to register.

I'm 23 and from sunny Scotland, finished my apprenticeship in Plumbing and Gas got my SVQ 3 and CCN1, CEN1, CKR1, HTR1 and also an HNC in Construction Practice, so in the process of getting myself Gas Safe registered, this is due to me finding myself unemployed, due to a dispute with my former employer these things happen though just got to keep going 🙂.

I'm currently looking at starting my own little business just as a sole trader, the information from the job centre has been pretty rubbish frankly, so anyone with any experiences, advice etc would be welcomed 🙂.

Hey, thanks for the welcomes' everyone,

@GQuigley67

Hey thanks for the advice, I'll look into the business gateway and PSYBT, I'm just in the process of getting my Gas Safe registration the now.

Are you doing the HNC at night or a day release kind of thing? I done mines at Ayr on day release. I found it fine aslong I had looked over the stuff and I had a class full of joiners so that was pretty helpful when I had to study roofs etc. The second year is more in depth but more fun I found, we got to learn how to use theodolites and survey buildings, if its the same course as mine you'll be asked to do a report on materials, I done a big one on lead which was pretty enjoyable as you're given the freedom to do anything. If you ever need a point in the right direction with some of the stuff just ask I'll gladly help 🙂.

Im doing it at night at the moment it can get annoying and we started 2nd year first, so were doing 1st year in 2nd year and we will have 7 subjects next year now because the college have messed it up because they couldnt get an architect for the architectural sketches. I'm doing surveying the now.

The course is called "HNC Construction" So far Ive covered Building Science, CAD Drawings, Building Services & Quantity Surveying
