Heating is off room thermostat is on 0 but when hot water is on the radiators heat up.

I need to change the check valve.

Where is the best place to look for this valve?

Wickes, screwfix, maybe B&Q

As above ... make and model of boiler, system design would help us help you 🙂

I have a back boiler behind gas fire. If that helps. how can i tell if it is direct or indirect?

Jut you're showing less and less like you know what you're talking about my friend ... where did you get your original info from regards "check valve"? Maybe you could start with the problem you have and maybe you'll find some decent guidance here ...IMHO

[h=2]Warm radiators upstairs when the heating is off, and hot water is on[/h]If this happens, it is probably because the check valve on a gravity fed system has failed. In a gravity fed system, the hot water cylinder is heated by water from the boiler which flows due to the gravity and not a pump. To prevent the water also heating the radiators when the heating is off, a check valve is fitted. If this has failed, the radiators upstairs will begin to receive some of the heat.

Hi jut ... There's a good chance from what you've described so far that the 'silver box', Diverter valve, in picture 1&6 is passing or jamed/stuck ... When just on hot water try pushing the lever underneath it and see if it moves but with some resistance and springs back when released?

Y plan- 3 port - not gravity - no check valve - Problem rads upstairs heating up when heating off - could be 3 port passing or wiring fault or incorrectly piped - has the problem just started? has it always done this?

The lever moves freely and does not spring back.

It could be that the return from the cylinder is in the wrong place, needs to be last connection back to boiler, how do you know that a check valve is fitted, have you had this fault in the past ??

This is the 1st time i have had this fault, I have lived in this house for 15 years and the system was here when i moved in so i would say it is about 17 years old. It was just a guess on the check valve from what i found on google. but on inspection i could not see a check valve.
