How to re-attach the tap handle onto the valve stem?

View the thread, titled "How to re-attach the tap handle onto the valve stem?" which is posted in DIY Plumbing Advice on UK Plumbers Forums.

Dear forum members,

A tap handle with no apparent screw visible anywhere on it has come off the kitchen tap's valve stem and I can't figure out how to put it back.
What is the secret with this model?

Thank you in advance!

The black and the white plastic pieces that are inside the handle should pull out.
The stem of the handle MAY be screwed in, to trap the black and white plastic parts.
There will be a screw on the inner end of the plastic parts that holds them onto the tap valve stem, then the handle would push on and lock on.

@snowhead thank you for responding!

I have tried to get them out a couple of times as follows:
  • pulling with pliers by the black bit (plastic starts to give)
  • using a set of spudgers, try to pry the plastic bits away from the metal enclosure - no cigar

I will try again!
