GEOFF BRADBURY

Hi guys! I am not a plumber or even a proficient DIY person, so please forgive any naievity!

Our Classic boiler today has developed an irregular firing pattern. It switches on ok but then shuts down after a few minutes. I have checked the thermostat is set ok, and that fluid in the header tank.

Am I right in thinking that the problem is likely to be that the pump has ceased to work and thus the water boiled in the boiler itself is not being circulated and this then causes the sensor to shut the boiler down?

I tried listening to the pump and holding my hand on it, but could not feel any difference between when the boiler was on and when it was off. Not that I would know whether you could "feel" when the pump was running or not!

Any help would be appreciated- although I am already resolved t the fact that it will need professional attention whatever!

You should be able to take the centre screw out of the pump (a few drops of water may come out so put a cloth underneath) and stick a screwdriver in you will feel if the pump is running.
