Hi all

I have an ideal classic that's connected to a thermal store the boiler ignites fine then goes out after about 3-4 mins if I dlick the on off switch it fires back up, unsure what to check due to the thermal store any help would be good. I've checked fan air pressure switch and flue for blockages all seem ok, the gas pressure is ok also and have checked external controls / room stat

Check the pump from the boiler to the thermal store is pumping also any valves in the primaries are open

Pump seems to be works as the rads heat up ? Just the boiler keeps cutting out but not locking out

Oh dear yes your right can we get this moved please admin

many thanks croppie

the boiler is an ideal classic se9 ff

many thanks for your input guys in really struggling on this one

Is it the one with the union harness. (Red white and blue)?

These can play up.

Basically you're short cycling so you're looking at a temperature issue either it's not dissipating heat quick enough and shutting down indicative of a circulation issue or it's sensors aren't reading the correct temperature and shutting down prematurely

If the rads get warm it may be up to temperautre or a thermistor as suggested

if it was a thermister or temp sensor then it shouldn't fire back up in until these are cool ? but what is strange is when it goes off if you flick the on off switch it fires back up straight away and lasts for another 3-4 mins

You may just be overriding a cycling time delay when re-setting the stat?

Are things otherwise ok, heating and hot water fine or is there a complaint/issue?

Yeah the complaint is that the heating cuts in and out randomly and don't heat the rooms , when I went on site I checked it out and the only way to get the heating to fire was to flick the on off switch other wise there would be no heating hot water is fine they said and the water was hot

Isn't the stat a plug in item to the PCB on these? If it is check the resistance, or you could remove the probe and see if it runs while it can't sense heat.

What thermal store unit? The heating is usually controlled via their controls isn't it?

Anyhow I thing "gasmanrob" suggestion is one to check! I'd be testing primary flow and return temps. That'll let you know what's going on in the circulation and will indicate whether you have flow issues or it is a boiler control issue! You don't want massive temp diff across the boiler F&R's.
