lads....would a faulty dhw thermister stop this boiler from firing in both dh and dhw?? read somewhere that this boiler has a preheat function that needs to satisfy the hw before going over to ch.

i went to it earlier and it had a l9 fault...i reset it and it then went to a h9 fault....then when it cooled down i reset it and it moved the diverter to the dhw position and when calling for ch it wouldn't move the diverter.....just stayed in the dhw position with "d" in the display and wouldn't fire when i ran the hw.

I was thinking the pump was the problem due to the overheat lockout as i couldn't feel it running when calling for dhw or ch but now i'm not sure. I didn't know where the dhw thermister was until i arrived home to look at the manual so didn't test it.

any advice on this pile would be welcomed.

If it isn't firing then it should come back with a fault code moogwai. 'd' is hot water demand so it's recognising that.... I'd be concentrating on the pump make sure it's running first thoughts, especially with o/heat issues 🙂

Pump in my opinion mate. They're notorious for failing. Unscrew the centre cap, pull it out to engage, try starting the boiler and see if pump spindle is turning. One I did recently would spin spasmodically when I initiated it manually then stop. Ring Ideal for part number as there are a few variants.

or take a sledge hammer with you and put the thing out of its misery, horrible boilers.

went back to this one today...replaced the pump so thats now working but still cant get heating or hot water. boiler is firing ok but not moving any water. the diverter actuator seems to be moving ok.....could it be that the diverter mechanism is stuck closed? i also fuged around with the diverter mechanism pin to see if i could work it manually but still couldn't get anything. I'm beginning to wonder if the heat ex is completely blocked.

Have you removed the sump cover? Debris can build up in there and set like rock which blocks the fall into the condensate drain.

No i havn't mate, will be going back tomorrow and i'm gonna do as you say and take the diverter mechanism out and have a look. Would a blocked sump stop the circulation completely?

Sorry mate I missed the firing ok bit. What error codes are you getting now?

H9.....but after a few secs it cycles again. That's why I replaced the pump.

Before I replaced the pump it would h9 and id have to wait 5 mins and reset it.

Check the dry fire thermistor value. Apart from that it's as you suspect, a blocked something. I would still take the sump cover off and check for blockages in there. It's dead easy to remove and goes back ok too. There's a hole centre/left that goes straight down to the condensate sump.

Any idea on what the resistance should be....i dont have a manual. will do as you say and report back tomorrow. gonna phone ideal tec when i'm there too.

Yep

What colour is the diverter head? The grey ones have the cartridge that screw in I think! I've had many of these stick fast!! I got the tool to get it out? It comes with the new ones!

Should read you got the tool??

Its a grey Honeywell one....the one that twists out. Not got a tool for it. If the diverter stuck would I still be able to move the pin?? I fiddled with it and could move it but still couldn't get he or ch!!
