I got redundnacy and was going to sign up for a course at The Plumbng Acadmey but I followed a thread a couple of months ago that siggested that The Plumbing Academy in Edenbridge had gone into liquidation and that it was the fault of the greedy owner Steven Edwards.

Does anyone know what is going on now? Is Edwards still doing this company ???? New websites are up and running but I do not want to part with a lot of money and not get a course.

H, what if someone already has 6129? Can they do add ons to get 6089 NVQ? So, 6129 is still a valid qual longe term then?

The 6189 which is the 'combined course' as you say cannot be offered solely at a training centre, hence my question

HI there,

What happens is you are signed up to do a 6129 tech cert over a period of time? will this new combination affect this cert?

Firstly, PipeNinja, if you already hold the 6129 then you can still register for the 6089 NVQ L2 up to the 31st March 2011.

The new qualification will combine the tech cert 6129 and the 6089 NVQ.

Fuzzy, you are correct in saying that the whole new qualification cannot be done solely in a training centre, and you will have to complete the "NVQ" units in the workplace, as you have to do currently with the 6089 NVQ anyway.

2 points to consider though.

If you already hold the 6129 technical certificate then you will be exempt from carrying out the equivalent units in the new qualification, so you only have to do the "NVQ" units to gain the whole qualification.

Also, the new qualification is unit-based, so you do not have to do all of the units - i.e. you will receive a certificate from City & Guilds for all successfully completed units. Therefore, you do not have to do everything at once (i.e. you can delay the "NVQ" parts until you are in work).

In addition, you do not have to do all of the units at the same training school/college - you can take all of the units that you have passed with you to a completely different centre and you will not have to them again.

I hope this helps.

😀 Thanks Plumbing Academy, my worry is, industry dont seem to want to know newbies with only a C&G Tech Cert 6129 and now with the new qualification it is not possible to get a full certificate only units that form a qualification. Without all the units you have no qualification. Without work you cannot get all the unitsd and therefore the full qualification.

So if its difficult with a C&G TC2 to get a job I presume it will be alot harder with only units😕

the 6129 plumbing cert does not remain with the candidate for life - if you have not completed the NVQ within 6 years of passing the TC then the TC does not exempt you from anything from the NVQ. The NVQ is the actual qualification here as it proves your competency in plumbing.

Mislead comes to mind.......

not sure how voluntry work will get you the nvq when you need to be working with a qualified/experienced plumber who will also sign off the evidence.

At least with the 6129 candidates got a qual whilst they looked for work

So how qualified does this experienced plumber need to be to sign of a portfolio ? or does it just have to be an employer ?

I've signed a couple of portfolios off. It's a great feeling to help someone out....and the karma comes around again to help you out I'm sure.

The plumbing academy have emailed me asking me to take on some more, but they want me to pay these ones....sorry no can do!
