Is this iron or steel? Need help and advice on moving gas pipe!!

Hi guys, i was wondering if anyone could help me this problem. I havent come across any steel or iron pipes to be honest, but this one is in the way of a shower waste i wish to run. Im not sure how to go about moving it, or if there are fittings etc to change it to copper for ease. I did something similar in college with a dye kit i think. Just need some help and advice if possible :S

Ha well this was as helpful as a bag of chocolate nails. The gsr I work with isnt avaliable an neither is his phone for some bizarre reason. Thanks anyway
