There's a leak in the ceiling of my Dad's living room which is on the ground floor and has a bedroom directly above it.

There's an in-ceiling speaker where water was dripping from, and there were slower drips coming from a couple of downlights.

I have turned the water supply off. About half of the ceiling is damp, but there's no visible damage.

There is some damp in the carpet in the dressing room in my dad's bedroom.

There is underfloor heating in this room, although it's not currently being used.

Is it best to find and fix the leak by opening the ceiling or by taking up the carpet and floorboards in my Dad's room? There are fitted wardrobes on top of the carpet which will make things harder.

Thanks for any advice.
