Morning everyone, so who wants to know how my 2nd weekend of experience went?

Saturday, my job for the day was to do the tests on meter (let by etc), disconnect the old boiler remove it, make good on the wall where the flue was and tidy up. It took me all day lol. To be fair I had never done it before and was second guessing every little thing, where to cut down the pipes that sort of thing. I was embarrassed that such a simple job had taken me all day but, now as I have done it, next time it will take me a fraction of the time.

Sunday, To be honest I wan't needed yesterday, when we was driving home Saturday night the 2 guys I was working with were discussing finishing the job off yesterday and I asked if there was anything I could come along and do. So the bloke who has taken me on said 'yeah come along if you want and you can do some soldering and bending' first joints I soldered were a bit messy but were under floor boards, but then after some advice the next ones were 1000 times better 'well done you did well there' was what the other guy who was working there said.

Other than that I was pretty much a gopher yesterday but I got to do that bending and soldering and just see the work getting done.

My aim of giving up my weekends for free is to learn so even though I'm slow, I'm learning a little bit on each job so all is not lost haha. Next weekend it's a boiler service and change some basin taps on the Saturday then fitting a fire on the Sunday. Just thought I'd give an update of how I got on so you can all have a laugh.

Oh yeah nothing leaked so that's a plus!

Thanks a lot guys, all very encouraging and thanks for all the advice I have had so far too. Many more questions to come I'm sure!

system3, if I came to work in Scotland, you would probably get more work - my customers would need someone to put things right a week after I have been in lol 🙂

Mate, your welcome here anytime as is any other member who decides to venture North either for business or on holiday.

Well done and you have my utmost respect for not sitting on your arse collecting government handouts and getting out there and learning a trade, even in these hard times.

Well done mate, It'll come good and as already said you have earned a lot of respect for coming on and asking about things with a good attitude and not one of those "Life owes me a living" kinda guys. We can all be slow at times no matter what anyone tells you, and you'll soon pick up the grazed knuckles and not so impressive burn marks on the forearms the more you do.

All very encouraging replies, good to hear as I don't want to become disheartened if it takes me a while to get up to speed.

Well done ash, one thing I learnt as a apprentice, and did it well which in turn they taught me more. Was when I was the fetch this fetch that. I used to try and work out what was needed next, and try to get ahead so they were never waiting. It got the job done quicker, it made me think more. It gave me chance to ask questions while they still could work. And boy they thought I was the best apprentice so everyone on firm wanted me. That is one thing today I find some youngsters don't have.they would sooner just wait to be told. Good look matey
