Afternoon all! Im andy winstanley. Il try keep this shortish as I'm sure I'm not the first and won't be the last looking for a job on this site. I received my level 2 tech cert approx two years ago! Realising the certificate wasn't all that it was hyped up to be, I started doing jobs for friends and family members to gain some kind of experience for myself. (I'm not one of these guys that thinks as soon as they get the certificate they can set up their own business and be a millionaire in a month) word got round that I was doing the plumbing and bigger jobs came in. I've been self employed for two years now. Last year I plumbed a 3 bedroom house with central heating (from the boiler), installed a new mixer shower in the old airing cupboard and plumbed water into out buildings for a washing machine and extra sink (which needed new underground drainage). Now I have gained a small amount of knowledge about plumbing I am looking for a plumbers mate job to learn from someone who is an expert and would eventually like to get my nvq to back up the cert! I am aware this message will annoy people who see this sort of thing everyday, and I will apologise in advance, but I am willing to try everything to get a plumbers mate job! If there is anyone who would like to see a CV and photographic evidence of work I have done, feel free to contact me! P.s I lied about keeping this shortish! Many thanks for your time.
Andy

Thank you very much for that leaky! Nice to hear the support! Hope all is well for you and your business!

I think you should feel pretty chuffed about what you've done Andy. You've not just gone and got your tech cert then jumped straight into strangers houses taking on jobs that you might not be able to do to the correct standards for them. But what you have done to take on jobs for family and friends, then slowly build up is great I feel. Similar to what I've tried to do.

It's very hard to get that 'one' opportunity, particularly in the current climate with established Plumbers being very apprehensive about taking people on. I managed to get my NVQ level 2, but I was the only one who stayed committed to doing it from a class of 15 adult students.

And although I'm a little older than your average young lad looking for work, I know given the opportunity to work for or with an experienced Plumber, I'd give it my all. I'm not interested in learning skills then leaving and trying to take customers away. I'd be extremely grateful and loyal to anyone that gave me the opportunity. So it can be extremely frustrating when you struggle to make yourself stand out from the crowd.

But good luck to you mate, stick with it and I hope you find someone who's willing to give you a chance!

Thank you very much phillay! It's great to see the support especially when I thought that I could possibly annoy people by posting on here. It's going to be very difficult to get that opportunity but like you, I would and will, give it my all!! Thank u very much for your reply! It's greatly appreciated!
Hope alls well!
andy
