I am thinking of getting a mobile credit / debit card machine . I know there is cost involved,

The main reason I want the machine is to put a now accepting all major credit / debit cards on my van. This would hopefully draw in new custom from people who have no spare cash and need to pay via credit card.

Do any of you guys use them and know of the cost involved.

I am going to contact my bank were i have my business account and ask them to supply one.

i think you will find thee is a rental charge for the machine and approx 2.8% of gross as a commission on each deal. But please post your findings as i need to keep up to date.

I would forward this charge to the customer

I think my bank charges £250 a year then 0.5%. To me just having a business account is enough of a rip off. I offer cash, internet banking or cheque (in that order) as the first two are free and I have to pay to bank cheques.

I contacted a company called card save who actually have an add on this forum. Hears the deal.

£ 50 CONNECTION CHARGE.
£ 23 PER MONTH RENTAL YEARLY CONTRACT.
1.9 % ON CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS.
29 P EACH DEBIT CARD PAYMENT.

If you charged a customer 3.5 % on credit card payments that should cover your charges and a part of your monthly rental.

I'd push for a dropping of the 'connection fee' (up front commision charge) first bud...,

i found a company called fsb. they had similar credit card charges but only charged 19p per debit card transaction

During these hard times the ability to offer customers this facility to pay for unexpected plumbing and heating problem make sense. May well be the difference between you and others when the decision of who to call is taken.

We use Welcome to Streamline
It is a very long time ago that I researched it and they offered by far the best rates at the time.
You need to look at what the cost is to transfer money from the CC company to your own bank account, we have a bank account which works with sl so good rates and the money is in to the bank really quickly.
