Just moved in and we knew the combi boiler, a Ferroli, was a total piece of the proverbial! Anyway it’s losing pressure - called out our home emergency and they said the boiler is on it’s last legs!

In summary we have 16 radiators, 2 showers, 1 bath and 6 sinks, although they won’t all be used at once! Water pressure is excellent! Single zone heating and want a Hive again.

Just after some unbiased advice on what to have fitted, before being over sold by someone!

Boiler is currently wall mounted in the garage. We are looking to buy a Vaillant EcoTEC Plus 630 system boiler, although this maybe overkill I would rather too much than too little, and a 300l water tank. As this is in the garage it doesn’t have any space limitations, so, do I look at a pre-plumbed to save time for the installer or just get a standard cylinder and have all the associated parts fitted on install? No issues if these has to be an external expansion tank or not.

My preferred choice is a Vaillant Unistor as this matches the boiler, however I have been told Megaflo are good too! We moved out of a new build and that had a Range Tribune, which also seemed acceptable!

If I get a standard cylinder, what pumps etc do I need?

Good choice to upgrade to an unvented setup if you use lots of hot water.

why not just let the installer supply and fit?
You can specify what you want and they can worry about the smaller details, and everyone is happy.

Thank Ch**st for that, someone who wants to put in a appropriate system. Normally it's "recommend a combi for a 7 bed 3 bathroom house."

Seems you're on the right track but it's time to involve a quoting engineer or three as we all have our favorites (a quick search of the forum will reveal), needs to be G3 qualified for unvented. I think I read here that Gledhill make Vaillant cylinders which is more than possible but cannot confirm, someone has to.

The best way to avoid being oversold is to further empower yourself by getting multiple quotations and finding someone you trust, any good engineer should be willing to explain his choices or accommodate any preferences you have.

Vaillant controls are better than Hive just as easy to control heating hot water from the app on phone or tablet, vaillants controls are designed for the boilers Hive is a one size sort of fits all

depending on what you want i can recommend these two lads
