Hello everybody.

I've just joined the forum as I was advised that it's really informative and solves problems.

I hope you can help on this one then? I've moved to Portugal and rented my house out. The letting agent informed me that the tenants had problems with the heating and they sent someone out to repair it.

The plumber told us that it was the heating pump at fault and fitted a new one. It has solved the problem, but my son had a look when the house was empty and his comment was 'where the hell did they dig that old pump from?' Is this an old pump, or an old design? It cost quite a lot of money, so I was expecting a new pump.

Does anyone have knowledge of these Wilo pumps. I attach two photos.

Thank you very much for your opinions. Hopefully my son is wrong about this!

Yea, - as Shaun said, the 3 port valve body looks fairly new (with old nuts).
The circulating pump is definitely old and that exact model hasn't been sold here for a few years now. So unless someone had that as very old stock, then it ain't new. Sort of looks used anyhow.

Might just be old stock that he had on the van. Get the letting agent to question it with the plumber. How long has it been fitted?

Don't think they make them like that anymore. I know grundfos do not sell there version of that pump now.

I haven't been able to buy those pumps for years. Wilo produced smart pumps which had larger electric black part, for extra electronics. Now most pumps are A rated and definitely different design.

Thanks. That's a good idea.
It cost 240 for the job. He did not specify parts and labour. And there was no VAT.

Obviously the plumber has his expenses, plus I guess the letting agent takes a small cut, but £240 for that seems a rip off, particularily if that pump is an old stock pump, or worse, - a second hand pump that possibility was used thinking you being the landlord wouldn't notice. Landlord living in Portugal might not bother much with rental in UK, - or perhaps just my suspicious mind.

Thanks for your information. My son said the wiring wasn't correct but I guess that's how it was before. An electrician did come last year and rewired a lot of the house (I was living there at the time - I guess he missed it.) I think I need to have a quiet word with the letting agent.

I would but tbh that pump will probably last longer than the new erp type 😀

Agreed. But are we even legally allowed to install non-erp pumps? I thought they had to be erp these days even in a direct replacement scenario such as the OP's?

Or are we still allowed to use them provided they were manufactured before the new Part L came in?

Yes we still can the same as we can still install non erp boilers until there's no stock
