Mysterious gas leak

Scenario: tested gas - failed by 4mb

Found leak at restrictor elbow at fire. Permanently capped fire supply - retested - got 1mb leak.

Found highly corroded gas pipe buried in plaster feeding cooker
- repiped cooker
Retested, still got 1mb leak

Now no pipe work is buried in plaster (yet!) ive sprayed ALL EXISTING JOINTS, and heck ive even sprayed ALL of the pipework inc meter lol

Now i know gas regs states you can have permissible drops on meters however, dont really like it and always have had 0mb drops on pipework apart from today where i cant find the leak.

Also cant smell any gas or any of my sniffers cant pick any up.

What you guys think? Just dont like the fact that theres a 'leak'. Tryed 2 manometers and 4 different hoses aswell. All got same drop of 1mb

Did you spray the meter test nipple shaft? Have had these come loose

Can you remove the meter and just test the pipework?

did you cap the meter and test that and prove your gauge?

Is the meter inside or outside ? The manometer reading moves up and down if its windy etc so you my not get an accurate reading

- only appliance on the run was boiler which i isolated and tested and still got the 1mb drop
- gas meter was under the stairs

i would cap the outlet side of the meter and retest,i have had them leak before,and governors pass that ldf does not pick up

Im 90% sure its now on the meter itself.
Will try this gasman!
Strange how it shows a drop but you cant smell any gas though..

TBH gas leaks can be a pita to find,after i rule out appliances i always cap and test the meter it can sometimes save hours

I always cut off a bit more of my manometer pipe when it shows a small drop, 9/10 times the pipes stretched! never know both your pipe ends may be loose, unlikely but you never know

had a few like that most been the boiler gas connection hard to spray on some boilers .usualy take meter out and have a test cap and just test pipework then as mark says test meter.

Have you purged all the air out of the meter & pipe work?

I have had a similar problem in the past as GAsman has said disconnect and cap off the meter, and use Ldf starting from the ECV through to the test nipple. I have had one or 2 anacondas leaking. I also find the Ldf with the brush has better results than the spray.

As long as you were not called out because of a smell of gas. 1mbar drop is acceptable. Personally I'm with you on no drop at all, but you can use the BS6891or IGE/UP/1/B to say it is acceptable.

Test the meter outlet connection with LDF or a sniffer if youve got one.

If no signs,disconnect meter and attach testing tee to installation to prove that its the installation thats leaking.

At least that way,you'll know where you are with it.
