Hey people.

Just wondering about what my options are when it comes to training up as a plumber. I'm currently on the city & guilds level 2 plumbing studies course (6035)

I'm actually loving the course, got a passion for the trade and really want to acheive the highest I can acheive doing it. My problem is that I cannot find an apprenticeship at the moment, I've managed to get some experience working along side my cousin who's a plumber but sadly he cannot take me on due to work being so quiet. At the moment I'm on my arse financially and I'm close to dropping out of the course because I simpy can't afford to travel to college (I really hope it doesn't come to that) how far can I go up the ladder without getting an apprenticeship? Also any companys that come to mind I could do an apprenticeship with?

I'm 23 and currently living in South Wales and down this way it's all who you know also work down here is hard to come by for most boys.

My plan at the moment is to complete the course, go back into work, use my wages to buy most of the tools I need, save some more to back me for when I return to do the level 3.

Any ideas on what I can do? I'm in a bit of a predicament here.

Thanks and sorry for the life story lol.

Walk to college. Get a weekend job for a few quid and work with your cousin for free. Do this and you'll get there in the end

If your determined mate you'll find a way to get to college. Just hang in there. But definitely keep working for free on the plumbing. You will gain experience that you will never learn in college.

Yeah your right there pal, on the days where I'm skint and can't get in it knocks me off focus I suppose. Yeah I have been, I've even offered my cousin to advertise for him and even take over his website to make it look better. Thing is now he's going for a job because his company isn't getting enough work for him to live off.

How far can I go without an apprenticeship?
