If the firm are willing to put you through it, then go for it and good luck. It's not black magic or anything you need to be worried about. Just learn the required information and take your time.

When it comes to starting off, know your limits and build up experience and confidence.

Christ, by the way some have been making out its like you'll be joining NASA.

You sound like you're well aware of the dangers and responsibilities, but don't let it put you off, you'll be fine once you get stuck in.

Guessing this course were they sort out your portfolio will be alot more expensive?

May main worry is being the only plumber/ gas safe plumber at the firm. So will be no one higher up to ask if I was unsure starting up.

No idea how much they charge these days.

If you're of the right frame of mind you could probably do the short course with you experience in plumbing anyway, but to really understand it all, you'd have to put the hours in.

It probably won't effect you passing or not though, passing the easy bit, understanding it is the hard part unfortunately.

Just remember one place saying the fast course was about 2000 if you could build your own portfolio. Or if you wanted there help to build the portfolio if shot up to like 4000/5000

No I won't be paying there the prices I was quoted when I thought of doing it myself a couple of years ago.

Gas escapes by under sized piping?

picture this

an undersized gas pipe supplys a large combi boiler and a gas cooker. The gas cooker has no safety device on the hot plate/ hob burners so in the event of the flames going out the gas supply is still open. Home owner has some saucepans on the cooker left unattended. Somebody uses a hot tap in the property and the gas supply is disturbed to the cooker making the flames go out. Hot tap is turned off so boiler needs no gas, gas supply back to full on the cooker. 20 mins later homeowner walks into the kitchen turning on the light as she walks into the room.

you get the idea, this sort of information needs to be common knowledge to joe public really. Many people think you are trying to rip them off when you tell them the gas pipework may need upgrading when they have a new boiler fitted.

What area of the uk are you from M grant ?

tbh new build is a good place to learn, if your working with somebody who knows the regs and has a good work standard.

We don't have a gas safe registered engineer at the firm at the moment. If I did a one day a week course what would the course duration be? A year? Spoke to a gas safe inspector who said doing my level 3 would be a good way to get safe safe registered. I have only got my NVQ level 2
