Hi everyone, just thought i would post a little hello and to introduce myself to you all.

I've just finished a successful career in the Armed Forces (Army) completing 25 years of service for Queen and Country.

I've spent the past 12 months training myself up and planning for the future. I've done a plumbing course, 3 week house maintenance course, ACS course (work experience with Ideal boilers) Part L, Water Regs, Part P and am now gas safe registered, inspection due on 04/12/15

I'm set up as a sole trader so just waiting for some work to come in now to get some experience.

I look forward to gaining from your experience and advice

Welcome Jamie

There are a few members with a similar background - watch out for ArmyAsh, Croft and Lame Plumber (although the latter two were Navy IIRC)

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the new career. Your army experience will come in handy if you have any customers like the swines I've had lately!

Welcome along and best of luck don't drop your price just to get a job move on to better customers trust me don't work for peanuts your not a monkey do a good job for a good price to a good standard and clean up afterwards you won't go far wrong

If you are competent to go out and work after those courses, then you are a better man than me. It took me at least three years of training with an expert before I did any work on my own, and this was mainly plumbing work - but what do I know?

My advice would be to find a gas installer to shadow pretty quickly before you forget what you have learned. Working with someone else will allow you to develop critical skills and engineering judgement - at the moment you have a very flimsy foundation for this!

I wish you well with your venture, but I think you need much more support than what you have at the moment.
