View the thread, titled "New Combi replacing backboiler on one pipe system" which is posted in Boiler Advice Forum on UK Plumbers Forums.

I had British gas over to quote to replace my backboiler with new combi. All great and had it installed only later to find on this forum while looking for something else that the one pipe system is not ideal for new combi.

Seems to work ok, but everyone is talking about the pressure and possible leaks. Piping is probably 50 years old, still looks ok and haven't had a major issue - most radiators seem to heat up but some a bit cooler.

Anyway, did British gas advise me wrong? should I call them back to check on certain things they didn't mention?

They set the pressure to 1.9

What did they set the heating temp to as it should be no more than 60

And also might be worth contacting the manufacturer to see how the warranty stands

It will work but not as efficient as it would be on two pipe.
Your system was designed to work on high temperature so setting it lower will be noticeable.
Was the one pipe system not mentioned on the quote?
They must have mentioned it?
Did you have a system flush carried out?

They did mention one pipe system, I am no plumber haven't a clue what that really meant they just said yes we can reuse the pipework and install the combi. I asked about flushing and they offered it on the quote but then the installers said on one pipe system they cant, they can only remove each radiator and flush it out. So thats what they did, they removed each radiator and with a hose in one end drained water in one end and out the other. Considering I should probably get new radiators as well.

I mean the system is working fine, heating and hot water, have no complaints, just when I started researching more about something cant remember now, was reading more about 1 pipe vs 2 pipe for combi. Was more concerned with pipes not handling it and leaking. Seems fine for now.

I guess I can upgrade pipe work room by room 2 pipe system?
