I've been given a job by a builder working on an insurance claim and I have to re-install an oil tank and re-connect the tank & boiler, which I can do without too much of a problem but, haven't done before.
My main concern is the local BC; do I have to notify them regarding this? If so when?
The OFTEC section on this just states:

As an OFTEC registered technician you can self-certify your works or you must notify building control before you do the work.

Not 100% certain but I would imagine that you should notify them but you should be able to do it through oftec.

Make sure everything is correct though as you don't want them coming back on you to move the tank again. Make sure you do your 133 form or whatever it is. (Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs lol)

Thanks Millsy 82, my confusion lies in the statement saying that I can self certify my work or notify BC. If I don't have to then I won't. It's an existing installation that I just have to re-connect and commission so to my way of thinking I should just fill in my CD11 and my T1/133D, and that's it - job done, but I wanted to make sure as I've not dealt with BC before as an individual.

If its existing then there is no need to notify. Just complete your paperwork for your records.

WHEN you self certify you DO notify building control, - via Oftec, though ONLY if you have been inpsected (annually) to the Competent Person Scheme standards.

Competent Person Schemes (CPS) were introduced by the UK Government to allow individuals and enterprises to self-certify that their work complies with the Building Regulations as an alternative to submitting a building notice or using an approved inspector.

A Competent Person must be registered with a scheme that has been approved by The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). Schemes authorised by the DCLG are listed on its website at http://www.communities.gov.uk

i.e Oftec run a Competent Person Scheme certificed by the DCLG allowing assessed members to self certify for works under Schedule 3 of the the Building Regulations.
Not ALL Oftec registered people are also members of their Competent Person Scheme....

Just keeping your own paperwork is not sufficient.

Of course this only applies if notification is required.

I disagree, I think technically you do need to do a self notification (assuming you are OFTEC Robert) and it ought to meet all the current regs BUT most people wouldnt bother. The only risk is if something went wrong with it, you would be accountable.
