New seals on service

Hi, I have my first service of a WB 35cdi boiler tomorrow and see in the MI's it says to replace all seals with new. Burner and heat exchanger. Is this a must. And do you usually have these in stock on your van? As it says you only need to clean heat exchanger if the fan pressure is less than 5.8mb. Do you clean any way? Also, it says a special tool in needed to clean the heat exchanger, and I have just bought the regin blade. Will this be suitable? And, I am guessing you keep the velcro on the ends of this blade. As not to damage the hex. Sorry, never used a proper tool before. I was shown to use a blunt hacksaw blade.

I've got a service kit on the land rover but haven't used it yet as every one I've looked at has been fine. It comes with a blade for cleaning the HEX.

If my flue has reading are spot on and my fan readings are ok, then I leave well alone.

However I've done full strip down cleans on these before when the fan pressure has been close to a fail just to be sure.

I find it a lot easier to do on a cdi then a junior range boiler though :-D

Unless it is really old, I'll doubt it'll need a strip down service. I've serviced plenty and never had to do one.

oh and do you not clean the burner if the fan pressure is ok? As it says you need a new seal when you clean the burner? You make it sound like a mission Tom. Hope it isn't too bad!!!

It's not too bad Mutley.

The last one I did was a while back. The landlord asked me to strip/clean the boiler, as his tenant wouldn't accept that his combi was working fine, it just didn't have enough output to feed a powershower.

Anyway, it was spotless inside.

I don't carry the seals as stock btw, but if you did need one, it's always going to be in stock somewhere local.

There really easy! Only one nut stoping the fan from swinging out, even got an access panel on the top for the cleaning tool! Only had to do one out of lots!

Ok so if the fan pressure is ok no need to clean burner or hex. Just check all co/co2 wp and so on. Thanks lads. From the sounds of it is is rare to do a strip down. I bet when I get to this one it will be one of those rare occasions!

Exactly, and like I said, the last one I did looked brand new inside. So I can see why they have this guidance in the manufacturers instructions. It's a waste of time if it doesn't have a trigger rating on the fan or combustion analysis.

But also seen as its probably 5 years plus old as it was superseded by the 37 CDi, I would take a electrode kit ( twin spark electrodes and ionisation electrode on same bracket)doodle to change , comes with new sight glass upgraded gasket WITH metal heat shield, the old one won't have this shield btw, new screws and spacers.....about £25 .....ionisation electrode part will be like a short sharpened pencil trust me.

You should the go in menu 5A and reset the service counter which flashes SE ( service ) after 2324 hours of running

if you ever have to clean the main hex, when you have brushed it out, put all back together, if the flue is accessible easily, pour water down the INNER flue to flush the hex, THEN. Clean the condensate trap last, saving you having to do it twice lol, this works a treat!

easy a, not done much servicing. only did 3 to get my portfolio. did mostly installs. have been turning services and repairs down. but now am getting asked quite regularly i am losing a lot of cash and potential clients. so need to just crack on. booked the baxi course for a little bit of help. hopefully

Just take your time and build your skills confidence etc......do not overbook work in as the added pressure will lead to mistakes!

that acces panel is no good if its a rh side entry flue got 2 on my patch dreading when they need stripping flue cemented in

cdi is easy only hard part I remember is trying to get all the crap from the sump after - I got and old shower the type you gran used to use on the taps and fitted that to hoover

Flush via pouring water down inner flue Ant, easy if the flue is down stairs then just clean out trap last as part of service.

very good, you will learn how to live test, components with a multi meter, and resistance check thermistors etc, there are boilers that are in dry dock also, that you can tear apart without getting water everywhere lol, great for practising etc, ring them up, courses are cheap, but some are 2 or 3 days.....

I shall give them a call then. Like the sound of the dry dock ones. I will try and get on as many courses as possible this yr me thinks. If I have the cash spare that is

Question, on my boiler which is a main 15he it says when changing the injector you should test for gas tightness with LDF. How do you get the gas to the injector without it working? When tightness testing, do you end up testing just upto the gas valve?

With the Worcester boilers, the seals and the cleaning tool are different for the different heat exchangers (for example ri and cdi are different), if you have both sets of tools, seals and electrodes/probes, you will be well prepared, oh and the Worcester Bosch courses are excellent, the factory tour is included and is an eye opener.
