Hi everyone, I am a Canadian RedSeal plumber new to the UK and am here on a 2 year work visa, currently living in Ely, Cambridgeshire. I have been a member on various plumbing forums in North America and consider them an invaluable tool for advice and information regarding the trade! So I am looking forward to talking with you all.

But first I have a few questions. I am wondering about my Red Seal qualifications and their relevancy to the trade in the UK. I see I can get info from the "UK Naric" website on the issue.... but am wondering if that's really necessary (as it costs a lot of money in Canadian dollars to get the answers I want!). Will potential employers need to have my qualifications in the UK to go with my CV?

Thanks!

Hi CW.
Plumbers in the UK don't need to be qualified, much the same as Electricians.
If you want to play with gas, then that's a whole different ballgame.

I suppose that's why it was hard to find anything on the subject! I'll have to look into gas then. In Canada gas certification is governed by each province. So in BC I am certified to work on appliances up to 750,000 btu's and we'll see how that transfers over!

Thanks for your help and thanks for the welcome all!

I see, trying to get out of Canada before they deport Bieber back to you eh? Fair Play. Don't see why you'd want to come here though, I dream of moving to Toronto!
