Hello, Ive just registered recently. Hope someone can give me a bit of advice cheers. Just a quick question regarding the flue on my new boiler. Due to restrictions all around the sides of my house, the only way we could bring the flue out was up through the ceiling using an extension piece then along about 400mm through the floorspace between plasterboard and floorboards straight out of the wall. This gave us the height required above a flat roof.

Then I started thinking, do I need to box the fle in supalux or similair, as its below the floorboards and inbetween joists. Its not tight, a good 3inches either side and 2 inches from the bottom of the floorboards. If its a gassafe requirement then so be it,or if it needs rerouting then so be it. The fitter says its not needed, and all my searching online doesnt seem to cover anything about this. Id just like a bit more advice?

Anyone help?

it does not need boxing in if you do that it will require access hatches at every joint, most important things are well supported, away from combustibles where it goes trough ceilings 25mm gap all round, and fitted with a fire stop

Thanks for that, is a firestop those two metal plates you fix to the ceiling around the flue pipe above the boiler, if so it has that.

yes, thats a firestop new regs have come in regarding flues in voids so if you box it in you will need inspection hatches in every place the flue has a join if its in a atic or roof space and is supported well etc you dont need to worry

That firestop plate, tbh I cant see it working if your whole boiler goes up, its not that big and only screwed into into the plasterboard.

Thanks for the prompt reply btw.

the fire stop should have a metal sleeve around it as well but tbh, they rarely do but most modern boilers inner flues are plastic and they rarely catch on fire these days unless its a valiant or a worcester thats missed a few services but i think valiant have sorted there issues
