Hi all i have been asked to change a old myson for a new heat only boiler thats the easy bit. on the flow and return and the pipe that gose to the f and e tank there is a round fitting. the flow and return reduce to 15 mm and the pipe that gose to the f and e tank is 15 mm dose any one have any idea wot this filling is. it is round and grey in colour. if any one could help it would be great. oh by the way i am gas safe.
the second question is the old boiler in in the loft. the old flue runs in to the chimney wot do you do when you take out the old boiler. because there will be a hole in the chimney and the old flue will run up in side can you just brick up the hole?

thanks so much. so if itake out the old boiler take back the flow and return from the old boiler as far as i can and cap them with air vents. then cut in my new flow and return for my new boiler it should be ok as its heal only for heat only. sorry to ask but i am a new gas engineer and i want to check these things with some one with moe exp thanks again

i know the fitting you are talking about, its a really old fitting, if u read the back of it, it takes the feed from boiler, and the expansion, then goes into one pipe is right ?

just do away with it and link the f+r the old tanks are finished now anyway,

the folw and return go in to the botton then a pipe comes out the side that gose to the f and e tank. i need to kep the f and e tank cos the boiler is heal only open vent so if i take out the fitting how would it link to the tank. thanks

Can the system still not be converted to a sealed system, with expansion vessel etc outside the boiler? Obviously system has to be sound & no weeps anywhere.

I agree with Gray 9689, sounds like your describing an airjec or similar. but that is a very common fitting, so the fact the question is asked by some one qualified causes some doubt. if you posted a picture that would probably help.

The fitting your describing is an airjec mate, come across them a lot in ex council houses around my end

this is the fitting, both going up one is feed one is vent do away with it all! expansion vessel, prv etc etc and make it a sealed system.

maybe you should get a more experienced heating engineer you on the job that way the job is done correctly and you gain the experience or even pass it on to someone else.
the last thing you want is a bunch of problems on the job and you dont know what to do :confused5:
