Oil line - supply issues

I put a new oil line in for someone a couple of years ago which, to cross a passage way, came from the tank at ground level, then up to 2 metres height to above the boiler (about 10 metres away), then down. Its always been a pain when working on the boiler as the old valve didnt hold it back (I should have fitted a new one), so Id end up bleeding it through with an open photocell (and torch) which worked fine, if fiddly.

Anyway, service it last week and since then Im about to go back for a 4th time as its locking out - oil not getting through. Yesterday I stuck a non return valve at the tank end but got 'the call' again this morning.

Should I be considering a deareator?

Boiler is a floor mounted 18th Century Myson Velair with the old orange Minor 1.

Note, when I do get the oil flowing through my pressure gauge and manifold, it reads a steady 9 bar.

Any advice before I go absolutely mad?

Off to the customer now......should be out on a family day, humph...

sounds like you might need 8mm pipe, definitely a non return valve and deaeraters cant do any harm and help prolong pump life anyway

Line is 10mm.

OOps... the burner is the orange Electro-oil, not a minor 1 - d'oh!!

Finally found that the problem was in the tank valve, its the type that have a thin inbuilt strainer that you get to from a nut underneath, awful things. I removed the strainer during a service last week as it was very rusty (!) and there is a filter inline. Turns out that that action may have dislodged something to mostly block the line, so all good.

I also found the nozzle and stem were glossy black which suggests late ignition, and sometimes the boiler went straight to lock out rather than a delayed lock out, so hang it, thought Id change the Satronic 701B for an 830.3 (replacing the photocell for a MZ770 at the same time of course).

NOW SORTED!! runs beautifully and all is well.

Remove the strainer you mention and fit a Crossland filter after the valve, more easily accessible.
