Ryobi do a machine that takes any paint. Buying 5l tubs of dulux will get expensive compared to using trade emulsion.

I've not used that particular gadget, but the ones that I have used have been more trouble than they were worth - time you've cleaned it, and wasted a load of paint in the process, only to find it doesn't work properly next time, it's easier and quicker to do it the conventional way.

Plenty of dust sheets, good quality paint to cover in one coat wherever possible, (best to use a ceiling paint on ceilings), a good quality roller on an adjustable pole, a couple of large paint trays, a cake rack to balance the roller with...

You'll have it done in no time.

I seriously wouldn't bother getting one, I'm painting rooms in my house at the moment and I'm using Hamilton Perfection Superlight 9" Microfibre Sleeve | NoLinkingToThis

One of the best rollers I have used and it gives a perfectly flat finish on the paint, which is only good if you have nice flat walls. Also you get almost no spray/flicks from the roller at all.

Also get yourself a paint scuttle saves you loads of time and it means you have a decent amount of mixed paint, then all you have to do is bag up your rollers every night and put your paint scuttle in a bag. Saves you washing them every time you have finished for that day.

Trade paints alright but when you have to do 3 coats of it to cover a blue the customer decided was to dark you"llwhish you had a betterb paint

Me too not looking forward to it , but as we now have full maintenance for his 9 properties I'm not going to let a thing like this get in the way

I'm with Destriyer2813 coverage depends on what you are covering , plain / patterned .

( and how strong the lighting will be to observe your results ! )

used Johnstones MATT recently with roller

I'm using macphersons trade paint decorating our house and it's spot on. Old fashioned method though, rollers and brushes.

I've used Leyland's trade paint & was very disappointed in it. Took me several coats to cover a magnolia wall & although it was said to be a brilliant white it was certainly was not.

I used Crown's emulsion in the same room on a different wall & it took me 2 coats & the finish was superb. It was only a quick job I did for a customer in a rented house as they were moving out so an immaculate finish wasn't necessary so just used a basic cheap roller sleeve & lots of dustsheets.

years ago a general foreman told me all painters should have M for moron branded on their forehead i dont actually belive him cos they must have a way of switching in to auto mode which has eluded me It is the most mind numbingly booring task devised by man
I hate it i hate the smell of emoulsion and the way gloss starts of on the tip of the brush and winds up at your elbow

Get some of the paint from Wickes, really good stuff and a spray machine and you'll do a room in an hour.

Or just do as I do and get the missus to do the painting. I hate it and won't touch it.

Funny how all pipe stranglers loath decorating with a barely disguised passion!

My grandad (Ex LRDG fireworks hater from the poppy thread) was an old school painter and decorator. I went working with him as a young lad and was taught the full preparation of a room, rub down, sugar soap, fill blemishes, rub down, sugar soap, before a brush or even a roller was touched.

I hate the thought of decorating now and will find a thousand excuses before I do it.

And yet I cannot stand the thought of someone else coming in to do it because I know full well they wouldn't reach mine, or grandad's, expectations!

Putting the paint on is the easy bit, it's the preparation that makes the job, and getting surfaces ready can be a right drag.

My uncle was a coach builder and he worked on the railways doing carriage refits and maintenance - once upon a time they were all brush painted, although you had to get the light at just the right angle to be able to tell.

Modern day paints are mostly made for the DIY market, and although it's fairly easy to get a reasonable finish without runs, it doesn't lay-off like the old stuff used to.

These days it has to safe for a 9 month old baby to eat, otherwise they daren't sell it.

Cant go wrong with brushes, rollers and decent paint. Oh and frog tape is a must for cutting in. Hated painting until I was told about frog tape
