I know those will be a basic question, but, what is the best way to install them? I have had a couple lately where ones the trap is on and tested, it leaked. And then I couldn't get my hand in to tighten up and it just ended up being a nightmare. Having to undo screws in basin a little and tilt it up to pull pedestal out. Also when removing traps for blockages. What's the best way. You can't test them before putting them in. Is it a silly question? I have only installed 2 in my time. Mostly people are going for wall hung these days or vanity units.

plumbers mait rolled in a sausage under flange on the waste. washer and nut underneath with a thin smear of silicone around threads will never ever leak. or just use a basin mate kit.

Oh silicone on the threads underneath? I thought it was the washer you put it on. Now I know why it was leaking. So do you apply the silicone around half way of the thread at bottom of basin orally the way?

Cheers Kay jay

Aassemble the washer and backnut underneath without silicone then rub a bit around the threads directly under backnut. Can put some round washer as well if its a plastic one. Soft rubber ones usually seal good

I use silicone under the flange (and under flange washer, if provided), PTFE half the thread, silicone on back nut and put plenty on so it smears round the thread as u tighten it up. Works every time!

Apart from not using PTFE I would do the same.
Chuck out any washers supplied and use silicone instead.

plumbers mait under the top flange then roll a sausage of mait wrap it around the waste against the bottom of the basin fitting then using a 11/4poly washer tighten it up works every time
never put sillicon on washers as they will just slip out when you tighten them
same with flush bungs on flush pipes if you use mait it will stay in if you use silicon it will pop out
mait is a pain to use but it works
dont buy the swan brand plumber mait it sticks to nothing
