Greetings all, and I wonder if you can help this amateur DIY plumber please? I've picked up most of my skills over the years by watching and asking of a qualified plumber, who is unfortunately no longer with us.
My approximately 20 year old NF30 has run pretty reliably for years, and has been checked as safe & satisfactory not that long ago. I'd noticed recently that there seemed to be quite a bit of kettling and short cycling, so I thought I'd flush the old Sentinel anti-corrosion and anti-kettling mix out and refill.
The colour of the water drained was startling - thick rust red-brown. The concentration of proofing should have been more than adequate for a smallish terrace house with 7 rads and 8mm tubing to them.
Anyway, I drained and flushed and refilled. Initially the indirect tank would not drain so I suspected a blockage. I finally cleared this, I think, and fired the system up. It ran for about 60 seconds then cut out. Tried various controller combinations and pump speed settings, but I couldn't convince myself the pump even had water in it.
Since then I've drained and refilled it about another 3 times. I even tried to back-fill it via the washing machine tap - big fail. 😀 The water does appear to be circulating, but very sluggishly - the rads do get a bit warm but the HW is not doing much. I still can't get any water out of the little screw-capped pipe to the side of the pump, which did used to produce a dribble in times gone by.
I've got a call out to a local plumber, who's number I got from our local C/H shop I've used for years, but if anyone has some bright ideas in the meantime I'd be grateful to hear.
