Potterton Puma 100e

We have a puma 100e boiler which has played up for several years. The pilot light comes on for anything between 30 sec and and 2 mins then goes off. The orange power light stays on and the boiler sounds as if it is on but the pilot light is out and the radiators remain cold.

We keep turning it off, leaving it and then turning it on and it eventually stays on.

However it has got worse recently and we couldn't get it going. We have a British Gas service contract so called them in. They replaced the pump - but the fault returned within 2 days. Next guy came out and said it was sludge in the system and would charge us £450 for a flush.
It has reoccurred and B G came out and replaced the sensor again the engineer said could be caused by sludge....but he didn't seem too convincing!

Don't want to fork out for a flush if this is a problem that is going to reoccur and is a known fault.

boiler does not have a pilot light,think you mean main burner

Is hot water working Ok ,do rads all heat up when eventually the heating does come on,if so it will be a faulty wax cartridge in the diverter valve

Even if there is sludge in the system or heat exchanger do not waste your money any more. Heat exchanger is now obsolete. Bin it and fit a new boiler
