Hi All

After seeing the positive feedback that Intergas have been getting on the forum, I have their sales people coming to see me soon.

It would be a great help if you could let me know the best price that you have got/heard of in your area - ideally:

Boiler model/type
Whether with/without fitting kit, flue etc and if without, what price these extras were
Where from (although this is less important if you would rather not say).

All help gratefully received whether on open forum or by PM - hopefully it will help me negotiate a good deal if there is one to be had.

Many thanks

Ray

Kay-jjay if we go for 2 we could share carriage charges. If its a good enough price.

Ray,
main suppliers near here is plum base there prices are on the net, they were doing a deal prior to December with free flue but not sure if it is still the same.

Sorry try Plumbase on the Internet, can't seem to find the edit button.

Thanks Stani.

I am always a bit suspicious of main-line merchant websites. Sometimes their prices are a bit inflated, and better deals may be available to regulars.

I have a drawer full of competitors quotes and invoices for a range of products, and it never ceases to amaze me how variable they are. I honestly don't know how you guys keep on top of it.

Ray

@stani - back of the queue my friend....

@ray, the calshot pack came just now, thanks for the jellytots.
you wrote a letter in which you claim you had included some kind of price list.i regret to inform you it was not included, therefore owing to my resounding disappointment i am unfortunately going to have to insist on the above mentioned intergas combi boiler. i will be gracious enough to provide you with a review of the product.

p.s don't dawdle! my worcestor will not see the winter out!

Disappointment is character building. I have helped you develop your character. No, don't thank me, you're welcome. 🙂

Kay-jay alright then, but only because my ideal wm just keeps rolling along, in fact if it wasn't for the fact it costs an arm and a leg in gas, I would just let this boiler keep going,
Stani

I've just received a present I forgot was coming thanks to ray for the inta filter as soon as IRS used it will be reviewed on here for you and other members

Apologies for the delay - we sent them out before Xmas but it looks like the carrier is only just clearing the Santa-backlog.

My daughter got part of her christmas present as a new years present!

That was Bolton, just rang them out of the book, we have an account with buildbase but at the moment you can't buy from Plumbase on your buildbase account so I think he just have me a small discount, not too sure.

Ray,
Father Christmas has just arrived, will fit this ASAP and let the forum know how it works, from 1st look the valves are a damn sight better than the magnaclean.
Cheers
steve

Getting worried about you Kay-Jay, with all this talk of men in tights. Starting to wonder if you might be a "friend of zebedee" ?

Which raises the whole issue of what the big tube of smarties would be for. Lets not go there... 😉

Hopefully, tha original were abysmal, the first one I went to was outside the time period and when the first time they were used they leaked and Adey said sorry out of guarrantee, no good to me when the customer stood behind me, saying they have never been used.

That's because they don't know you Steve. Become a regular, and you will soon get the lackadaisical attitude and whimsical contempt that all merchants are specially trained for. 🙂

Only kidding. Thanks for the positive feedback - I will pass it on to the troops in Southampton.

The tea, like all tea from vending machines, is frankly an offence against nature and should be reported to the authorities.
I'm told that the coffee is all right, but I don't drink the stuff. 🙁

Don't need it in a trade business. We don't do any retail, so all our business depends on trade regulars, and they vote with their feet. Just count the contents of the till at the end of the day/week/month. That tells us how happy the customers are.

hi ray,
are you stocking these then ? whats your prices ?

Hi Dancin'

Still waiting for their sales team to set a date. I expect they only returned to work today - I tried to get hold of a worcester rep last week, and of the 5 reps & 2 regional managers that cover our patch, only one was answering his phone - and that was the new boy. 🙂

Intergas gave me a price list and a discount, but that's obviously just an opening shot. I set up this thread to get an idea of "the going rate" to help me screw them down.

It usually takes a while to negotiate this sort of deal - at least a couple of months. No way I am going to take the deal that they offer at the first meeting.

I am not even sure that we will close a deal. If we can't be both cheap and profitable, there isn't any point, and its always risky to dilute the volume that I do with Vaillant, Worcester, Ideal and BDR. For a merchant, all profit in boiler sales depends on hitting volume targets, so there is no point in selling 500 Intergas if that means I fall 500 short of my target on something else. That could mean that I have sold many 1000s of boilers at a loss.

Re visiting this, have we got an update ray? My boss is mainly installing intergas now but getting everything else from your maidstone branch, its painfull driving just around the bend to plumb base,

also guys get on the intergas training, its free and an instant 5 year warranty.

Hi 1king55

It looks like they don't want to know us. We had a meeting scheduled with their Sales Director back in Jan/Feb time, but he cancelled it and has never called to re-arrange.

I have a theory why that is, but whether I am right or wrong, it doesn't really matter. We could buy them from a distributor, but then we would be expensive and I am not going chasing a supplier who doesn't want to do business with us. I'd rather keep on working with Worcester, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi and Glowworm who look after us in return.

So sorry mate, I don't think we are likely to be doing Intergas in the near future. Unless they have a change of heart.

Ray

perhaps he got sacked ray?

Someone should make a thread and sticky it for ray, where we can post up the pieces of kit, tools, fittings, boilers, consumables, filters , gloves and such for him to look into that we find to be high quality? Were at the frount of whats good, it would be nice to help him out?

No merchents seem to sell decent disposible gloves 🙁

Well ray can stocksome from costco then !

that sales director has left intergas. Can you try again please Ray

thanks for that info GasmanxxxR1.

I'll give it one more try, but if my suspicions about the reasons they weren't interested in us are correct, then it would be about more than an individual.

Other merchants who are making high margins on certain products don't seem to appreciate our trading style for some reason. 🙂

You think they make an above average margin on their boilers?

I think their stockists do. And since our reputation is to pile-it-high, sell-it-cheap its not impossible that some existing stockists have put the boot in.

Wouldn't be the first time. The other big boiler brands come under intense pressure from other merchants to "discipline" our pricing. To their credit, they mostly ignore it, but thats not so easy for a boiler that is still very niche, and probably dependent on two or three major stockists.

Interesting to know, thanks Ray

I recently went on the intergas course, the guy running it was interested in what merchants we use. About 90 % said williams and urged him to make a deal, he answered that he hoped he could and that the sales director had made a lot of people unhappy and had now left the business

Just need to get that figure to go national!

Was the bloke running it an Indian guy called Mak Kumar? He was my original contact, and was very positive - I know him from when he was the Heatline radiator rep.

So do i, plumbase refused to quote me with any discount what so ever and were pretty sarcastic.
left fuming at them wanting such a ridiculous price.
Atleast i can open a trade account at Williams easily without any gripes as it will be my first.

grabbing them now ray 🙂

They gave me the price for the boiler and flue which was ex vat, thought it was rather high and left after them being sarcastic and not really even wanting to discuss it (i know the people differ branch by branch) but hey you'd expect them wanting your trade.
Got home and looked at their prices online. It was 30 quid less that the online list price INC vat!
giving them the benefit of the doubt that the guys got mixed up however still no reason to practically ignore a new customer.

Still have to get a boiler at some point, will just have my boss order it.

A little birdie told me today that Intergas are no longer quite so friendly with the big nasty merchant who told them not to deal with naughty Ray at Williams & Co.

I thought I would open the subject up again. If they knock me back again this time, then I'll pull the shutters down for a few years, but every one

If people feel able to let me know the market price that they are paying for intergas models, that would be much appreciated.

Either by PM or on the open forum, but please - it does help if you make it clear what parts are included, and whether your price includes VAT.

Many thanks

Ray

I'm surprised we were competitive on it Sean. They even charged us for delivery, the cheeky gits.

I can't say that I'm sorry that your "other merchant" is unhappy.

I feed off the pain and agony in the tormented souls of my competitors.

Oops - did I say that out loud? 🙂

I ended up pay £90 more to you but that was after they called me back when I told them to bugger off. They won't answer the phone to me at the moment... Silly boys.

The manager gave me the chat about being in it for the long run, but he couldn't tell me why I had to haggle with them and that I don't with you. An economics awareness course might be in order.

ohh is ray able to supply atags now !?!?

Not according to one a branche which one of my customers called up...

Not really. We prefer not to supply products that we don't stock in depth, because a) we are likely to get poor terms and therefore be expensive and b) if we aren't familiar with the range, we are likely to give poor service through our ignorance. There is also an element of loyalty to those manufacturers who look after us.

No merchant wants a reputation for being expensive with poor service. Apart from Grahams and some branches of plumb centre, obviously.

However, if a regular like Howsie is asking, then obviously we try to be accommodating, so long as they understand our limitations.

If we don't think the voice on the phone is trade, then very sorry, no selly retailly. Buggery offy.

Hi ray just pmed you the costings of a 24/18 intergas and parts, get stocking. My local lad in town assures me he will beat the prices shown as well. jcd If you need more recent prices I can look them up, but my local lad is basically 40% off list normally.

Well, well, well. The new national sales manager at Intergas turns out to be my old mate Jim Boyce, formerly of Main Boilers. Fancy that!

If any regular Intergas users could help in my negotiations by sharing up to date cost information (including model, whether the price includes flue/expansion kit/VAT etc) that would be enormously helpful. PMs are very welcome.

Jim may be an old friend, but he is also a boiler salesman, and will therefore be doing his best to shaft me... 🙂

Did the course 18 months ago in colne, nice piece of kit, tried to get my boss to use them but he's only interested in making the most money he can, not what's got a good record.
