I'm replacing a rad in the hall (it's the always-open one in the system) that has a separate drain cock just before the manual valve - see photo:

I'll be replacing the drain cock as it's ancient. I can use a standard drain cock (eg a basic Screwfix one) but I see there are some manual heads with built-in drain-off valves (eg this one or this one) that would probably be neater.

I think these are really for draining off the rad but would it work as a system drain if the manual head was open?

Just realised the links in my first post didn't get through - but it doesn't matter.

A slightly different question: as I implied, this rad won't have a TRV as it's the bypass rad in the system. Should I simply put a lockshield valve at both ends (with one to set the flow and the other fully open) or just at one end with a manual valve at the other?
