came across a elson combination econmy 7 cylinder,the tank was starting to corrode,the leak caused damage to the property and the insurance company were involved,my question is should these type of tanks be serviced on yearly basis even if its to look at the anode

yes is the answer just to check the anode

The sacrificial annode should be checked on an annual basis, I use Titanium annodes when I have to because they don't wear out.

most of them are stipulated on the m.i's to be changed on a yearly service check.

Agreed if it's magnesium, the titanium anodes are plugged in 230 volts.

Being honest I don't know how they work, I am happy enough that the cylinder supplier recommends them and the warranty is covered.

Don't let the magnesium wear out, had a customer covered in black water while taking a shower, she was not impressed 🙂

Guaranteed the annual maintenance though LOL

this c ylinder has corroded be that prematurely because the anode had dissolved and the vessel was never checked,if youy were to replace this what would you go for,it is a elson economy 7 ,it is in the attic,210ltr,could it be changed for a unvented cylinder 2 x immersion...

unventented or a combination type cylinder,remember this is going in the roof space and my flat seats over another flat,2 story building

you may struggle to get your discharge away from a top floor flat unless you can run to waste. I would speak to a couple of local engineers for quotes, if your main supply is ok and a discharge can be fitted then an unvented cylinder is a good option. Make sure any plumber is G3 qulaified.
