Agree. Only if you are passing the scrapyard, will it be worth it. Gets you shot of it, though, so doesn't matter if you get your money in one go, or a few small amounts. Last time I checked the value of pure copper locally to me, it was £5 a kilo, but will check tomorrow & let you know.
Don't forget other types of scrap, like electric cables, & general stuff like old washing machines, rads, etc, as they were near to £200 a tonne, & not hard to reach that! ( that's if your scrap place takes all )

cable is worth more than pipe as its always 'bright' copper.

That's what I advise anyone - surprising the weight in a w.machine or an oil boiler shell, & a few circulating pumps or a rad or two can be heavy, so worth lifting them if you can store them till you get the chance to take to scrapyard.
Also, when getting a new exhaust on any vehicle, remember the cadelitic converters are worth big money for scrap & don't trust a scrapie that says yours is a worthless type. Take it to another scrap place.
how much can you get for a circulating pump i took up a load of copper and 6 rads last year but he didnt give anything for the pump

Nothing much for one single pump, but gather a few of them, plus any small metal bits & pieces & they all add up.

You don't have to remove the insulation off the cables but you will then only get a fraction of the price.
I should add that they weigh the cables, obviously rubber & all, & then give you amount per kilo.
Last time was £1.40 a kilo, so probably a good deal, as most of that wasn't copper!

no, just as is and pile onto scale. cant be rsed cutting fittings and bras off.
stripping cables easy, you can do 100meters in 5 mins.
start of about a foot or two, tie copper to gate post and sheath to van bumper and drive up the road.
i always find parts of scrap bikes on the way home, funny that?.lol.

I would check with scrapyard, but think if you burn cable they will not give you good price, as the copper will be dirty & usually left with melted, charred plastic on it.

You get less than bright but a lot more than with the plastic still on.
Good to see plumbers earn so much we're not above a little rag 'n' bonery.

you realy have to clean scrap to get best prices we cut of al soldered fitting from pipe and remove any brass from cylinders

but is it really worth it, half hour cutting scrap up, vs 20p per kg?
so for 20 kg you get an extra £4.
and last time i did this, they said pipes were dirty so still no good, so would have to cut rubbish off and scrub pipe, IMOA i have much better things to do with my time.

Radiators will never be safe again, every time I take a rad out, guaranteed to have pikeys come by, only bonus is they usually ask if it is ok to take, even when i was no where to be seen they knocked on door.
