hello all i thought i would see if i can get any help through ukpf, after completing my level 2 and 3 plumbing at college (city and guilds) i am trying to complete my nvq but cant seem to get any employers to take me on, so i thought i would ask here to see of anyone could help me out, im 23 years old, live in the Birmingham area and have my own transport.
Im eager to learn as much as possible and will work as many hours as wanted to and will pay for all my own nvq fees and only ask for a small salary to get by on to support me and my family, im hoping someone will help me with my situation as all i seem to be doing is hitting brick walls, thanks for taking time to read this,

Hi Lee,

Sorry I am unable to help as I am too far away but I would say that I get about 5 calls a week on average asking the same thing and they all offer to work for FREE.

I don't agree that anyone should work for nothing but I have had to do it in the past, it is Very hard to get a start in the trades as it has too many wanabees and not enough jobs.

Sorry I cant help any more.

Hello Lee, hope you get someone able to help. As has been posted above, many offer to 'learn/work for free'. In as much as this is not an agreeable option, but it may just get their foot into the door. I know for a fact that I will give more consideration to someone who 'offers' to work for free than to someone who is expecting a salary? They will get paid something on a daily basis, then a weekly basis. The joy of that is: they expected nothing. If during their time with me they are not happy with what I am giving them, they have the option to walk away. Hence my intention to give them something on a daily basis. Amount will depend on thier contribution & willingness to 'learn'.
In your case, you seem to need the wages as you say you need to look after your family. Hope it works out but I think you will need to contact as many of the local companies as you can.
Wishing you well

Have you tried PJB Midlands? They ahave asked me if I want to earn by working on site at their projects while I finish off my GS portfolio. I did offer to work for free, and I do have to go to Wolverhampton for an interview but it should be worth it in the end. Give them a call and see if they can help matey. - good luck
