Hi all sorry to bother you with a silly question. I have to do some work on a cold water main in a property and the gas board have plonked a brand new meter right in front of the incoming cold water stopcock. I would like to solder some fittings in the area but the gas meter is pretty darn close to the cold water stopcock and general area I would like to solder in. Obviously if I were soldering on the gas main I would remove the meter, would you isolate the gas supply and remove the meter if you were soldering water pipe work very close to a gas meter or would you just check the gas meter joints with LDF? (I have a combustible gas detector but I am unhappy with its reliability).

Thanks in advance

phone the gas supplier and request the meter be moved to a more sensible postion at the side of the stop tap. Blumin lazy meter fitters. The stop tap must be accessible for emergency use.

You are not allowed to relocate.
Use compression or pushfit fittings or brush up on your soldering skills. Your problem is a non problem for the average tradesman!

thats why meters have a nice flexi pipe so you can move it around a bit to resolve issues like this that the supplier leaves us with 🙂 As mentioned it shouldnt be a problem just a bugbear that we come across

Who said the meter wasn't there first?!

as long as your ordering skills are ok you should be fine, just keep the flame away from the meter.
