Can I ask people thoughts on speedfit tap connectors they are ment to only need to be hand tightened. Getting less and less keen on fibre washer connections on taps and toilet fill valves now. Rubber washers seem to seal so much better.

I think the rubber connections are definitely better than fibre but don’t like the idea of pushfit. If pushfit then hep2o

I don’t use the plastic fittings and tbh I just remove them (if add ons) where I have to replace a cistern or taps for examples.
I use soldered tap connectors, but I replace the fibre washers with the Hep flat rubber washers.
That’s also a good so solution with being rubber washer 🙂 I think by the time our solder all together isn’t it quicker to use the other fitting? I didn’t come across one which was leaking due to low quality materials if it’s leaked then due to not tighten it

Yes definitely can’t beat the speed to install a Speedfit tap connector - 2 seconds compared with a couple minutes to have a copper tap fitting prepared and soldered plus then the time to tighten it up.
I haven’t seen a Speedfit tap fitting leaking yet, but they are delicate.
I know that on copper plumbing a lot of plumbers prefer to use a Speedfit connection to toilet cisterns.
I shall remain old fashioned though

Thanks tried a hep2O flat rubber washer on a copper 62. Seems a good fit. Just to confirm as tight as can with hand only on the speed fit connectors?

I can vouch for the quality and reliability of John Guest fittings. I use them in the training workshop that I run. I use the JG fittings because they are demountable without tools, I can reuse them so many times which saves on my course budget. It's easy to replace individual parts in them. Most importantly I have had the same JG pushfit elbow on my pressure tester since this time last year. It gets mounted, pressure tested and demounted and reused many times a week and has not failed me yet. Although I will use copper wherever possible and don't like plastic in general I do trust the JG range.
