Is it true that you can join JG Speedfit straight onto copper with no inserts? Just slip the Speedfit straight onto the copper?
inserts are designed to give the plastic pipe a bit of rigidness, something for the grab ring to take hold of. Since copper is metal it is rigid enough and you don't need an insert and that's it really hope this helps
as plumbersmate has never used inserts before it might be worth mentioning there are two one has an external o ring used mainly in heating it has a double seal in a sense and the second is just hard plastic more use for compression fittings if you use the ring seal in the wrong place it has very little bearing inside the fitting
I understand what you mean.rubbish post of mine if you clip the pipe it anchors it, The pipe then passes thru a base unit and a fitting is put on as soon as it passes thru the unit, as it expands and contracts the fitting can be slowly drawn off the pipe not often a real problem just worth bearing in mind
PlumbersMate you will get laughed at and teased here but stick with it and ask every silly question you can think of. Don't worry about it. I'm guessing you've done a fastrack course and are trying to get experience any which way toy can. Well that was me not long ago and I've spent the last couple of years here asking silly questions about obvious and simple things and now I only have to sound stupid about once every few days instead of every post. Regardless of how you're received just ask, ask and ask some more. I've learnt as much from the people on this site as I did at college.
Not quite a fast-track, but learnt at college through evening course around my old job as a duct fitter. And always go by the belief that theres no such thing as a stupid question, id rather ask and look stupid on here than not know and look stupid in front of a customer! lol
