am a tad stuck on my pet hate (so called engineers that run round saying change the pcb change the pcb) im sure i am wrong just not as to why.lol

i have a rd 532 (which i think is a rebadged worchester bosch) fault code EA which raeds " is gas cock turned on ? check - supply pressure , power supply , igniter electrode and lead , ionisation sensing electrode, flue duct and co2 level.

now iuve checked all these but i can not see where the ignition sequences is failing as the boiler will not re-set.

it also says more detailed fault finding are described in the service booklet for engineers , number 181 465 346

anyone wanna chuck some ideas at me . ive only ever replaced 2 pcb in all the years of doing this but this one has me beat.

im feeling bad cos the guy is 83 and BG got him to take this boiler on finance as his old was buggered by all acounts.

cheers boys and girls

nope no sparks , it doesnt even try

yep power to the two solonid valves at the back of the gas valve

i havent checked the condensate trap like , dont know why thats pooped into my head , maybe weather from last year but id still of thought it would try starting up

ive never seen this boiler but if the gas valve is letting gas through the boiler should also spark at the same time.. make sure the igniter box if it has one is getting 240 and check leads for continuity

The Bgas branded boilers can be a real pain.

Last xmas I was unable to get a pcb for one of their Classic variants, all the local suppliers were quoting 2/3 weeks!. B gas visited and fitted the part within 2 days.

Dont know if they have a hold on the distribution of the spare parts?

it wouldnt if the lead is making contact with the earth, just disconect it

managed to get hold of the engineers one and hears something i didnt know , am guessing one or two others dont either

Press buttons and simultaneously spanner (reset) and call enginner

learn something new every day

Well it sounds like a greenstar CDi BOD ... Not 100% mind... They have a horible wee flap I believe in the fan chamber that is prone to sticking ... Is the boiler going to lockout or not getting there?

if flap is stuck in fan chamber would boiler not get past pump on start up and go to lockout

the fan runs when you put power back to it but doesnt even start on the ignition sequences but thats probbly cos i cannot reset the pcb to clear the fault

When you get the chance check the fan pressure ... there's a test point between gas and fan I think, if not you can put gauge on gas valve p2 ....

'desrob' I haven't worked on enough to say for definite what the code is you get if the flap sticks. However I believe it'll be an ignition fault EA coz they don't have an APS, the pcb works on the understanding that the fan pcb has reached it's op speed I believe.

i bow my head to you,

i bow my head to you,

No need mate I'm guessing on the model coz BG put there name to so many ... This job is much easier when you have the thing in front of you 🙂 ... You may be on the right line's and I'm way out!

id probably smack mi self in the head , im taking mi lappie with me in morning anywahy so ill go through the ideas on hear before i whip it out.
