If swapping a filling loop because the slotted bit on the cold feed is rounded off and is barley able to be turned. Is it ok just to swap the cold valve. As swapping the valve on the central heating return will mean draining down the system?

As long as the only fault is on the cold fill valve then yes, you can just swap the valve and leave the rest in place although I'd swap the flexible hose if your buying a filling loop kit

Why would you ever have to drain a sealed heating system to fit the valve on the heating system end? That would be madness. Got to be the easiest job to do without any draining.

Are you saying it would air lock with it being sealed?

Yes. Take the pressure fully off the system by using a drain cock or whatever. Will probably just be half a bucket of water to take it to zero.
If you ensure that there are no auto vents open, then just opening one pipe end will have little bother with water. Water can't come out if air can't come in, - so, as you say, it's air locked. So easy you could remove the old nut & olive.

Thanks there's a auto air vent on boiler so will have to shut this. Will likely just swap the cold side as this is the only one that is faulty. The C/H side was no valve to open or close flow just a check valve.
