Hello, been doing bathrooms a while now, and always tank whatever wet area I’m working on according to manufacturers instructions. I always have tanking liquid left over, never any tape (which is expensive to buy separately). Does anyone have any experience of using a cheaper waterproof tape as an alternative to the manufacturers stuff?

To be honest it doesn't matter if it's expensive, customers paying.
What's your lively hood worth?
Manufacturers will use any excuse to get out of a warranty claim, so why give them that opportunity.
Install as per manufacturers specification, then at least you have a leg to stand on when things go pear shaped.
