I assume that is the case and certainly on the Honeywell trvs the rad tails do appear to be brass with a finish applied but im not sure its chrome. The tails that come with most cheap contract trv sets are not brass I have had several shear off while winding in to the rad and they deffinately werent brass.

Sure the bulldog ones are, had occasion to shorten one or two . Heavy handed or really cheap pap. Bulldogs c /w locksheilds only £6.50

When they failed it was a combo of both. I was trying out some new paralel toothless jawed knipex on cheap tails and I squeezed a little too hard and turned a little too far. Thankfully it was a weekend job and the rad was from b&q so the new rad was on them.

Yes learnt from my mistake. Use my stubby bahco adjustable now as dont find the tap tail nut sections consistantly sized from one manufacturer to the next which is a shame as I would like to a deeep socket that would fit them so I could use a ratchet like I used to on the union tails of old.
