TWD

OK, so I am wondering why the general lack of enthusiasm about my TWD package.

In the months I've been on here I've had only a handful of enquiries.

So what's wrong with the packages? Is it solely the lack of an offsite SEO package that is holding people back, is the fact that I haven't demonstrated enough of a portfolio or testimonials, is it the monthly fee or the initial setup fee.

Is there even a market for plumbers to have at least decent websites on this forum, there are many of you with ok websites, a handful with good websites and an abundance with weak or none-existent websites.

Are you all just too busy to bother? Most I've taken so far have barely had the time to contribute to even producing the written text - I mean if this is the issue - I can arrange for the content to be written.

Guys - I really think you are missing a trick by not taking your professional web seriously.

If I was a talented plumber I would personally have a few websites and be present on at least one social media channel.

Certainly not enough of you showcase your work or testimonials very well at all - something proven to increase sales.

If you have plenty work then that's great - but that doesn't mean it makes having a strong website pointless - maybe all your work is unblocking drains and you'd prefer to be doing solely bathrooms.

Then setup a website focussed on bathrooms.

If you're fed up of penny pinching clients target your website design and content at more upmarket clients.

Want to add an extra income stream to your website? Setup an affiliate deal where your customers can buy stuff from you at a discount rate.

These ideas may not be feasible for everyone but I am just pointing out that having plenty work today doesn't mean you couldn't benefit from a strong website and actually a bit of professional brand identity wouldn't go amiss - some logo's I've seen just aren't fit for purpose.

I've even included logo design as a feature of the web design packages.

The other potential reality I'm facing here is also that perhaps I am wasting my energy - you guys are all just over the moon with what you currently have - DIY sites and all - and there isn't a market or appetite aside from an unhealthy obsession with SEO.

Please - if that's the case - leave me a comment and give me a clue

PS. If I sound a bit frustrated it's partly to do with the weather change and the fact I've had to take up a full time office based contract for a while - until I can get generate some work - I'm still persevering with TWD though.

PS. The only example of a completed project I can give you all which comes under the TWD brand is

There are cheaper, easier and more effective ways of advertising.

Also, like in our trade, I'd be looking for someone who was recommended if I was to have a site built. I'm inundated with nuisance calls from Web builders and tbh they all get told where to go. If they really can provide all the things they promise, they wouldn't need to cold call me weekly

Thanks both of you - I'm wondering if you speak for the vast majority on here - I think you probably do in which case I'm facing an uphill battle.

Sorry mate, but i sub contract most of my work to a refurb builder so i don't need one.

get mine done and hosted for free, i am like the others one man band.
if i get more then i need to employ so the wagon rolls on work staff etc.
happy getting work from adds etc old school lol

I have a site safe-gas-installer.co.uk

I set the name/domain 4/5 years ago. 2 years ago I handed the site over to a boiler manufacturer based company.

Locally I am on page 1 of google on searches I try.
I pay approx £200 a year for this.

In reality all the enquires I get are from companies offering to get me better results, but how did they find me !

Kev

I would be interested but need like everyone else need to see lots of previous work before anything.

Examples aren't a problem - though I'm not really touting for business on this thread - I'm just trying to see whether there is any interest on here for assistance with websites.

I do get plenty of work but it's always in different industries and the timing is often inconsistent - when I did agency work I built lots of trades profession websites and always got great feedback, particularly for my logo's.

I thought I'd try to specialise and an opportunity to sponsor this forum seemed like an ideal place to start.

Of course - if people in the plumbing business don't see value in a well presented, well structured website with a clean brand identity, calls to action and all the elements that go into what I would consider core elements of a professional web presence then I need to consider that.

Hi Kev,

That's great - you're on page one locally and that probable gets you a steady stream of traffic.

Although, are you saying you don't get customer enquiries in that last sentence?

Also, google does personalise serach results so it might be worth seeing if you're no.1 on someone elses computer. It will make your site number one if you visit it more than a few times yourself.

I think web sites can be great.
And I have been considering one but am torn.

if I stick a big FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK sticker on the back of my van instead of a web address.
Its a doddle to add before and after pics
And a rolling blog
Most know about facebook and it formats perfect to mobile devices

And its free

@Newcastle Phill -

I think you make a good point, There was a thread on here about facebook recently and people were discussing the pro's and con's - not sure if anyone could find the link, I forget what the title was.

Here is an interesting article which asks the same question...

Hi Ricky,

You must mean the links I posted - The only one that has been built on the leverage theme would be Bristol Plumbing & Heating Company Ltd.

Have you built many wordpress websites then? Hopefully they are better than my plumbing 🙁

I see your spending £1200 on your new website on another thread - Could I ask what you are getting for that?

a accountant i play golf with has spent 16k on his website i felt like i was saving 15 grand. i'm not sure what i can tell you i'm getting. do you want me to compare what im getting with what youre offering number of pages as all i know is i'm getting what I want.
