Hi folks. Fleeting visit as I'm off out. Just wanted to share with you what I did to overcome a problem today!

Doing a boiler replacement in an empty Landlords property past couple of days. Mentioned to the landlord yesterday morning that there was no electric or gas on, both card meters! The Landlord rang me last night to let me know that he'd gotten the electric on and there should be a gas card in the post for today! Guess what? No gas card!!! :mad2:

That meant no hot test, no floorboards can go back, no commissioning!!! Blah! Blah! Stress!!! :frown:

Then a lightbulb flashed on in the space between my ears :lightbulb:

I drove the 20 mins home and back to the flat with my windows wide open and the addition of my own gas meter tucked under my arm. 😀 :lightbulb:😀

Heat test, commissioned and left complete !! :clap::clap:

Gas meter returned to its rightful place, had a shower and now I'm rushing off out!! Looking forward to hearing all the gas police reports below :lol:

I was actually quite pleased with getting the job done!!! Now I'm off for a curry!! Catch you all later. :waving:

Won't get it from me - i salute your ingenuity. To be honest given me an idea for all the landlords properties for gas checks i turn up at with no gas on due to the same problem. Never get paid to go back - always end up with first visit free.

I worked for a HA doing all the voids and carried a secondary meter and little generator for those jobs with no gas/electric on the meter

I toyed with fitting it backwards in the landlords house but couldn't even steal that little bit of gas 🙂

In all these years I've never wanted to possess a 'spare' meter! Had loads of opportunity too but have always returned them! I think that stems from my apprenticeship & early days at Northern Gas where it was part of our job to install remove and replace gas meters for the 'Gas Board'! 🙂

Used to get loads of these card meters with no credit etc.

Bit of closure plate tape over the meter connections, minimal damage, the Logic I fitted does 3 restarts so it'll purge what little air got in which included my breath when I had to 'air test' when i refitted the existing meter! Worst case scenario is a return visit to sort out, much less hassle than having to leave the job with a good half a day's work IMHO 🙂

It would save all this hassle and enable checks to be done easily without having to wait for cards or swap meters. They could be available to gas safe registered people only and, to discourage use to override charges put on meters the rate could be set at twice the going rate. It would be worth paying more for the amount of gas you use on a check or commission.

It's called a gist card and it unlocks payg meters they go wrong a lot errrrrr!!!!

i wondered the same would save lots of hassles and the temptation of the ornamental gas meter bypass
